Aronia & Rosehip Syrup
**Currently MADE TO ORDER for the summer season! Minimum order of 2 bottles. Made with LOCAL aronia berries from Ames**
I have been doing research on other immune boosting berries out there to conquer this cold and flu season. I came up with this combo & a delicious recipe of Aronia Berries, Rosehips, cinnamon, clove, ginger, and our honey.
Aronia Rosehip Syrup Aronia berries already contain a high amount of vitamin C, but did you know that rosehips contain 60 times more vitamin C than what is found in an orange? A major benefit of vitamin C is collagen production. Collagen is a protein that forms the connective tissue in the body. The vitamin also treats inflammation and improves immunity. Aronia berries have traditionally been used by Potawatomi indians to cure colds, and recent research confirms the anti-viral properties and high vitamin C content of this extraordinary superfood. A group of Bulgarian scientists found Aronia melanocarpa to have in-vitro anti-viral activity against type A influenza virus as well as bacteriostatic activity against Staphylococcus aureus and Escherichia coli. Besides the vitamin C and anti-viral properties, Aronia berries have the highest concentration of antioxidants present than other fruit. This is important because antioxidants protect the body’s cells from the damaging effects of oxidation. The aronia berry’s ORAC score comes in at 16,000. To put this in some context, blueberries have long been seen as an excellent antioxidant (and they are), and their ORAC score is 4,669. Elderberries are the next closest to aronia with a score of 14,697, while cranberries clock in at a respectable 9,000. Other benefits of aronia berries include the fiber content. Aronia berries are packed with fiber and therefore have benefits that include healthy bowel movements and overall improved bowel health, lower cholesterol levels, weight loss, and reduced risk of problems related to blood sugar levels. There have also been studies to suggest that eating more berries will reduce your risk of developing cancer. A team of researchers from the Department of Nutrition and Food Science at the University of Maryland analyzed anthocyanin-rich extracts made from grapes, bilberries (wild blueberries), and black aronia berries for their chemopreventive activity against colon cancer. All three extracts inhibited the growth of cancer cells, but the aronia berry extract was the most potent inhibitor. Besides the Rosehips and aronia berries, the syrup includes cinnamon, ginger, clove, and our local honey. There are many benefits of cinnamon when it comes to defending the body from illnesses. Cinnamon is a natural anti-microbial, anti-biotic, anti-fungal and anti-viral agent. It has also been shown to be helpful in fighting common allergy symptoms because it reduces inflammation. Ginger health benefits include reducing nausea, pain, and inflammation. It is diaphoretic, which means that it promotes sweating, working to warm the body from within. A study involving 74 volunteers carried out at the University of Georgia found that daily ginger supplementation reduced exercise-induced muscle pain by 25 percent. Clove is used as an expectorant, making it easier to cough up phlegm. Cloves are a natural painkiller and also attack germs, so they'll help you get rid of that sore throat. Improves digestion and Reduces inflammation. There are many benefits of local honey. Some of the benefits include natural cough syrup, sleep promoter as well as a natural energy source, antioxidant power house, and counters pollen allergies.
Adults & children take one teaspoon daily. If feeling ill, take a teaspoon every 3 hours as needed. (This shouldn't be used for infants under a year old because of the honey)
